I have some thoughts about billiards to share

I heartily encourage you to read Steven Heighton’s Shadow Boxer, well, actually, anything by Heighton- in shadow boxer, though, you’ll hear about the joys of pool- mainly that it helps people who aren’t gifted or disciplined enough to enjoy the joys of mathematics, particularly geometry and thus transcend the frustrations of language.

I’ve also noticed that it hurts much more when you miss a ball you are just solely focused on potting in the pocket than when you are trying to pot a ball and get position on another. I think that has some metaphorical power. It’s simple- but devotion makes life more meaningful.
